MEMS

The “Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS)” working group brings together developers, integrators, users, and enthusiasts of micromechanical actuators and sensors. The working group aims to promote, strengthen, and expand the network of these stakeholders, as well as to support the dissemination of information on industry trends and developments. It serves as an advocacy group for the MEMS research and development community in the Silicon Saxony region, with a focus on silicon-based, miniaturized systems. The working group helps shape the framework for education, talent development, and the recruitment of skilled professionals, and promotes collaboration between research institutions and industry.

Silicon-based sensors have already been commercialized in numerous applications and are installed by the billions in consumer goods. They thus represent a widespread and significant—yet mostly invisible—component of technical products and have a major impact on life in society. The positive impacts of MEMS encompass areas such as health and well-being, targeted interaction and inclusion, resource and energy efficiency, and climate protection. Furthermore, they promote innovation, infrastructure, and industry.
