Applied Materials’ new *EPIC Center (Equipment and Process Innovation and Commercialization) represents the largest investment to date in the research and development of advanced semiconductor equipment. The center, which will be operational later this year, was designed from the ground up to drastically reduce the time to market for groundbreaking technologies—from the early research phase through mass production. For chip manufacturers, the EPIC Center will provide earlier access to Applied’s research and development portfolio, faster learning cycles, and an accelerated transfer of next-generation technologies into mass production—all within a secure collaborative environment. In addition, the joint innovation programs at the EPIC Center will provide Applied with greater transparency across multiple hubs to guide R&D investments while increasing R&D productivity and joint value creation.
*Capital expenditures are expected to increase to approximately $5 billion over time as customer projects get underway.
