ECS Summer School

Be part of the ECS Summer School

For undergraduate students pursuing a Master's degree in a STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and studying at a university in the EU or an associated country, the ECS Summer School offers a unique educational opportunity.
At the University Residential Centre Bertinoro, you can attend a week of lectures by representatives of leading universities, research institutes and companies on the topics of semiconductor technology, integrated circuit design, digital systems and embedded intelligence as well as integration.
Transfer, accommodation and meals will be covered by the project sponsor. Application deadline is April 30, 2024.

Immerse yourself in the exciting world of chips

Microelectronics is a broad technology sector for the development of integrated circuits (CHIPS!!). Chips need to be designed, manufactured, tested and assembled. They can then be assembled into electronic systems to be operated and animated with the soul of software. The ability of these systems to manage or exchange information with their environment encourages interaction between the physical and digital worlds, making them smarter all round.
In recent years, this sector has made incredible progress. This is the result of improved microelectronics and integration technologies that open up the possibility of expanding existing applications and also creating new ones. Microelectronics enables miniaturization and high-volume production, allowing electronic systems to be used in numerous scenarios, from inside our bodies to outer space. Some cases concern telecommunications (with better communication systems), the automotive sector (with electric cars and autonomous driving) or biomedical devices (to support human weaknesses, enable minimally invasive interventions and improve prevention and diagnosis in general).
Through lectures, demonstrations and interactive activities, the program will present some of the possibilities offered by today's microelectronic devices and future applications, and show the many facets of the fascinating world of microelectronics.

Summer School Program

The program will cover four main topics:

  • Semiconductor technology
  • Integrated Circuits design
  • Digital systems and Embedded Intelligence
  • Integration

Talks will be delivered by representatives from leading universities, research institutes and companies. Career testimonies by young engineers will complete the week

Eligibility criteria

This summer school is dedicated to undergraduates students either preparing to select a major for a graduate degree or considering pursuing a Masters degree. Students from all fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in a university based in the EU or associated country are eligible to apply. A good knowledge of English is mandatory since all interaction will be held in that language.

Application:

Deadline for application: April 30th, 2024, 17:00 CEST
Selection will be based on the applicant’s CV, a motivation letter, up to three recommendation letters, and academic transcripts. It will take into account gender and geographical balance to ensure a diversity of student backgrounds.

Selection results will be communicated to the students on May 31st.
