From AI Demo to Production Use
Today, AI applications can be demonstrated in no time at all. However, there is a critical gap between a functioning proof of concept and productive use within an organization—the so-called “implementation gap.”
In practice, this involves far more than simply selecting a suitable AI model. Among other things, companies must address questions such as what data will be processed, where that data is stored, what security and availability requirements exist, and how the solution can be integrated into and operated within the existing IT landscape over the long term.
The issue of data sovereignty becomes particularly important when dealing with sensitive customer, corporate, or development data.
For certain use cases, locally or on-premises AI can therefore be an interesting alternative or supplement to cloud offerings.
AI Needs a Suitable IT Foundation
This is precisely where PDV’s perspective comes into play.
As an IT systems provider, we do not view AI in isolation as a single application, but rather in the context of a company’s entire IT environment. In our view, it is crucial that the technical foundation aligns with the respective requirements—from infrastructure to security and data storage, all the way through to subsequent operation.
This is not a matter of a blanket “on-premises instead of cloud” approach. Rather, for each use case, we must determine which form of deployment is sensible and sustainable.
PDV brings many years of experience in planning, building, and operating complex IT infrastructures to this task and is increasingly combining this expertise with specific requirements from the field of local and hybrid AI.
Practical Knowledge in the Masterclass
PDV also demonstrated how this integration can look in practice during its own masterclass at Brains on Silicon 2026.
Led by Managing Director Kai-Uwe Schurig and our AI expert Julius, PDV shared concrete experiences and insights from the implementation of local AI. The focus was not only on the technology itself, but especially on the question of what conditions must be created so that AI can be reliably deployed in a real business environment.
After all, local AI has long since ceased to be merely a topic for the future at PDV. We are already implementing relevant scenarios within our own infrastructure and in our customers’ environments.
The real challenge begins after the proof of concept
The discussions at Brains on Silicon made it clear to us once again: There is great enthusiasm for AI. At the same time, there is a growing need to turn individual applications into robust solutions for everyday business operations.
This also shifts the focus of the question:
Not just: What can AI do?
But: How do we integrate AI into our organization securely, confidently, and sustainably?
This is precisely where we see PDV’s role: to bridge the gap between a compelling AI use case and a suitable, operational IT environment.
Our Conclusion
Brains on Silicon 2026 demonstrated just how dynamically the field of AI is evolving—and how important it is to consider applications and IT infrastructure together.
For PDV, this means: We want to leverage our existing expertise in IT infrastructure to support companies in implementing local and hybrid AI scenarios.
After all, AI does not become a strategic technology based on the model alone. What matters is how seamlessly it can be integrated into a company’s own IT landscape and operated within the organization.
And that is exactly where the actual implementation begins for us.
