JOYNEXT expands global market position in autonomous driving
JOYNEXT plans to launch the smart camera system on the market in the course of 2025. ADAS is becoming the standard
“Driver assistance systems are becoming the standard in all vehicle segments and regions thanks to stricter regulations and NCAP safety ratings,” emphasizes Manuel Yoon, Managing Director and VP Strategy of Autobrains Germany. “However, it is still a challenge to provide these assistance systems cost-efficiently for car manufacturers and drivers. Our contribution is to reduce the number of accidents by providing technologies that enable autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and intelligent speed assistance for everyone. In addition, we can reduce driver stress through comfort features such as adaptive cruise control.”
JOYNEXT is working with Autobrains to develop ADAS technologies for small and compact cars
ADAS technologies are already widely used in the mid-range and luxury class and are often considered standard. In the entry-level segment, however, there is still considerable potential for further development, as the additional costs represent a challenge for car manufacturers. This is where the “Smart Camera” from JOYNEXT comes in: it offers a cost-effective, high-quality and reliable solution that now makes ADAS technologies accessible to entry-level vehicles. This is an important step towards safe mobility for all vehicle classes. “Currently, ADAS technologies are not yet widespread in the entry-level and mid-range segment. With JOYNEXT’s smart camera solution and Autobrains’ unique AI technology, the system offers high performance and accuracy. The software can be easily adapted to dynamic conditions worldwide and can therefore be used in all markets. This means that the system can be quickly adapted for the customer and brought to market and therefore offers major cost benefits,” explains Jan Kolanko, Senior Manager for ADAS at JOYNEXT GmbH.
Specialist in self-learning AI
The innovative camera solution was developed by JOYNEXT in close cooperation with Autobrains. The Israeli company specializes in artificial intelligence for the automotive industry and focuses specifically on self-learning AI technologies. Igal Raichelgauz, founder and CEO of Autobrains, explains: “By using Autobrains’ new self-learning and signature-based Liquid AI technology, we can develop a much more efficient and robust perception software. Compared to conventional AI algorithms, we need significantly fewer resources – both for training the algorithm for specific traffic situations and for the hardware requirements for system integration of the software. This enables us to offer high-quality perception that runs with low computing and memory requirements on very small SoCs (system on chip) from 1 TOPS (tera operations per second).”
Overall system for ADAS
JOYNEXT integrates Autobrains’ AI software with control software specifically adapted for the European market. This turns the camera into an independent overall system that is immediately ready for use. In contrast, comparable solutions from other manufacturers rely on individual components, which means that OEMs have to procure the various solutions separately. “Our smart camera combines data collection, processing and control in one compact device. There are also expansion stages with an additional interior camera, which means the system also meets driver monitoring requirements. This makes these products an attractive solution, especially for European and Asian OEMs,” explains Jan Kolanko, Senior Manager for ADAS at JOYNEXT GmbH.
