With its strategic location in the heart of Southeast Asia, the site enables Infineon to flexibly serve customers worldwide—at a time when digitalization, electrification, and the energy transition are continuing to drive long-term demand for semiconductors. The facility is designed for further future growth and can be expanded to include up to five modules. This gives Bangkok the potential to become one of Infineon’s largest backend manufacturing sites in the long term. With the new backend site in Bangkok, Infineon is complementing the ongoing expansion of its own front-end manufacturing capacities.
“The unique combination of a strategic location and growth potential makes the new site in Bangkok an important addition to our global production network,” says Alexander Gorski, Chief Operations Officer and member of the Executive Board of Infineon Technologies AG. “We are creating a new hub in the heart of Southeast Asia, surrounded by a rapidly growing ecosystem and with excellent connections to the global logistics network. This allows us to further diversify our production network across different regions and offer our customers resilient capacity and a high degree of flexibility. At the same time, the manufacturing facility in Bangkok is designed for long-term growth from the outset: Starting with Module A, the site can be expanded to up to five modules. This gives us the scalability we need to flexibly expand our capacities in the future.”
“The opening of Infineon’s new backend manufacturing facility in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, is a strong sign of confidence in Thailand and in the future of our semiconductor industry,” says Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand. “With this investment, we are jointly strengthening Thailand’s role in the global semiconductor value chain, promoting the development of future-oriented skills, and creating high-quality jobs for the next generation. We welcome Infineon’s long-term commitment and look forward to further deepening this partnership.”
Long-Term Investment in Thailand’s Semiconductor Ecosystem
Thailand is consistently driving the development of a strong semiconductor ecosystem as part of its national technology strategy. With its excellent connectivity within Southeast Asia, proximity to key customer markets, and growing expertise in semiconductor manufacturing, the country offers attractive conditions for advanced manufacturing and technology-driven growth. With its new facility in Bangkok, Infineon is leveraging local expertise, established partnerships, and a well-trained workforce while simultaneously strengthening the further development of Thailand as a semiconductor hub.
The facility currently employs approximately 350 people. As the first building (Module A) comes online, the number of employees is expected to rise to about 1,000. In addition, Infineon is working with universities, educational institutions, and industry partners to support the training and development of skilled workers.
Expanded manufacturing capabilities for complex semiconductor solutions
The Bangkok site is characterized by a high degree of automation, a scalable plant design, and a digitized manufacturing infrastructure. This enables efficient, stable, and high-quality production on a large scale. The newly designed facility builds on the expertise of Infineon’s existing back-end manufacturing sites while offering the flexibility needed to respond to changing customer requirements, new technologies, and increased production volumes.
With state-of-the-art cleanroom, assembly, and test capabilities, as well as a high degree of automation, the Bangkok facility covers the entire spectrum of back-end manufacturing and wafer testing. This combination strengthens its role within Infineon’s production network and enables sophisticated and increasingly complex semiconductor solutions for applications in the automotive, industrial, and energy infrastructure sectors. In this way, the site directly contributes to technologies that drive electrification, energy efficiency, and digitalization worldwide.
Sustainability Built In From the Start
The Bangkok facility is powered entirely by electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition, it features water treatment and rainwater harvesting systems and is equipped with solar panels that generate electricity from renewable energy sources on-site. Together, these measures support resource-efficient manufacturing and help further reduce Infineon’s carbon footprint across the entire value chain.
