“As part of the NVIDIA ecosystem, Infineon is working with NVIDIA to redefine power systems from the distribution grid to the processor. This is a critical enabler for the next phase of AI innovation,” said Adam White, President of the Power & Sensor Systems Division at Infineon. “As AI models become larger and more complex, data centers need to deliver significantly more computing power within the same physical and thermal constraints for a given amount of electrical power. Combined with NVIDIA’s modular MGX architecture, Infineon’s power solutions significantly increase energy-efficient power distribution along the entire power conversion chain in the data center. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with NVIDIA to bring further MGX-based innovations to market.”
Infineon’s extensive expertise in power conversion – from the grid to the processor – is based on all relevant semiconductor materials, including silicon (Si), silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). This holistic approach accelerates the transition to fully scalable 800 VDC architectures. The use of Infineon’s GaN technology at switching frequencies close to 1 megahertz enables particularly compact power converters with industry-leading efficiency. At the same time, the combination of Infineon’s proprietary SiC JFET technology and specially developed control ICs forms the ideal basis for protection and hot-swap functions of server boards operating directly on the 800 VDC network. Infineon’s power management solutions convert the input voltage of 800 VDC on the server board to 50 V, 12 V and even up to 6 V output voltage.
As part of the NVIDIA MGX AI Factory ecosystem, Infineon supports the 800 VDC architecture in all configuration options based on the NVIDIA MGX architecture. This reduces the number of power conversion stages by providing direct current (DC) power at the 800V voltage level directly on the server board, increasing energy efficiency, simplifying infrastructure and enabling AI applications with the highest power density.
About NVIDIA 800 VDC
NVIDIA’s 800 VDC MGX-compatible power racks make it possible to increase the compute performance and power density of existing AI infrastructure without having to wait for completely new 800 VDC AI factories. They provide a path to continuous improvement for accelerated computing with very high power density and enable hybrid power architectures that protect existing infrastructure investments while preparing AI factories for future workloads.
