GlobalFoundries: “Advanced Facilities Control Center” Opens in Singapore

October 25, 2026. GlobalFoundries (GF) today opened its “Advanced Facilities Control Center” (AFCC) at its Singapore site, further strengthening the company’s leadership position in digitized semiconductor manufacturing. Developed in collaboration with technology partner Siemens, the AI-powered control center consolidates plant operations and data from GF’s entire global production network and will initially be implemented at the Singapore site. This marks a new milestone in GF’s digital innovation and reinforces Singapore’s strategic role as a key manufacturing and operational hub for GF.

As part of the first phase, five fab-specific control centers on the GF campus in Singapore will be consolidated into a single central control center. By consolidating plant data and operational metrics, the AFCC combines advanced monitoring and visualization tools with AI-powered capabilities such as predictive maintenance to help teams accelerate troubleshooting, identify root causes more quickly, detect emerging issues earlier, and prioritize actions with the greatest impact.

“A reliable facility infrastructure is the foundation of semiconductor manufacturing, and the AFCC represents a significant step toward building a more connected, smarter, and more resilient global manufacturing network,” said Pradip Singh, Chief Manufacturing Officer at GlobalFoundries. “By bringing greater consistency, transparency, and intelligence to our critical equipment infrastructure, we are paving the way for smarter and more sustainable operations across our entire global network and strengthening the foundation upon which GF’s manufacturing excellence is built.”

Once fully rolled out globally, this feature will integrate more than 1 million critical data points from manufacturing equipment across GF’s global manufacturing network, enabling the benchmarking of operational metrics across “production sites” to optimize performance and improve the sustainability of manufacturing operations. Thanks to round-the-clock monitoring of equipment condition, teams can identify potential issues earlier, reducing unplanned downtime and enabling faster responses. The centralized model will also boost operational efficiency by optimizing the use of space, equipment, and personnel resources, while reducing redundant infrastructure, energy consumption, and associated emissions.

“With reliable data, a secure infrastructure, and in-depth industry expertise, we can further expand predictive maintenance, advanced automation, and industrial AI from our base in Singapore,” said Isabel Chong, Managing Director of Digital Industries ASEAN at Siemens. “By combining GF’s expertise in semiconductor manufacturing with Siemens’ capabilities in industrial digitalization, we are creating the next generation of global plant operations and making semiconductor manufacturing smarter, more resilient, and more efficient.”

Autonomous robots equipped with thermal imaging cameras, gas detectors, vibration and acoustic sensors, and other anomaly detection capabilities, conduct routine patrols and visual inspections in the production halls and on the factory grounds and transmit real-time data to the AFCC for analysis and response. By linking on-site sensors with central monitoring, the robots expand the AFCC’s ability to detect potential problems early and enable faster intervention.

“This is another step toward excellence in semiconductor manufacturing. Given our strong digital foundation and the support for innovation from the government and the entire ecosystem, Singapore is the ideal location for this initial implementation,” said Yew Kong Tan, Senior Vice President and General Manager of APAC Manufacturing and the Singapore site at GlobalFoundries. “By equipping our plant engineers with data- and AI-driven capabilities, we are modernizing the workplace and enabling our employees to focus on higher-value diagnostics and problem-solving, deepen their technical expertise, and build fulfilling careers in the semiconductor industry.”

“The Advanced Facilities Control Center reflects Singapore’s collaborative approach to manufacturing excellence and innovation, bringing together industry and technology partners to develop new digital solutions within our advanced manufacturing ecosystem. This also creates opportunities for our engineers to deepen their digital skills and work with state-of-the-art technologies,” said Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President of the Singapore Economic Development Board. “We look forward to strengthening our long-standing partnership with GlobalFoundries and driving new growth areas such as ‘advanced packaging’ and ‘silicon photonics.’”
