Together with Prof. Dr. Michael Scheffler and representatives from the International Office, they discussed ways to further strengthen their collaboration.
The delegation from Malaysia included Siti Hajar Binti Yusof, Head of the Foundation and Pre-University Studies Section; Dr. Siti Nor Fazlina Bt. Abdul Hamid, Program Coordinator at the Language Center and University of Applied Sciences; and Haliza Binti Kamis from the Consulate General of Malaysia in Frankfurt am Main.
Since November 2023, the WHZ and the GMI have been bound by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation, which was signed by Rector Prof. Dr. Stephan Kassel and the Director of the GMI, Ahmad Solihin Bin Mohamed Yusoff. On this basis, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Automotive Engineering has been in place since 2024.
Currently, 13 students from Malaysia are studying at WHZ. Among them are four students in the Diplom program in Automotive Engineering and two others in the Bachelor’s program in Green Engineering.
Founded in 1991, the German-Malaysian Institute offers its own pre-university program, the German University Preparatory Program (GAPP), which specifically prepares students for admission to German universities. GMI graduates who have earned an A-level qualification can begin their studies in Zwickau immediately.
The visit focused on discussions regarding the expansion of student mobility and attracting additional students to the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau. The GMI is currently undergoing an accreditation process to develop into a university of applied sciences, which will open up additional opportunities for cooperation on joint degree programs.
Both partners reaffirmed their interest in intensifying their collaboration in the future. “We would like to build on the successful visit by Prof. Dr. Michael Scheffler to the GMI in November 2024 and further expand our cooperation with this long-standing partner,” said Betina Singer, Head of the International Office.
