This is all made possible by the agreement signed on 19. September 2023 by the Saxon Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow, the TUD Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger and the Senior Vice President of the “Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company” (TSMC), Lora Ho, signed cooperation agreement, which intensifies the trilateral cooperation through the new exchange program. The program is specifically designed to train German STEM students for careers in the semiconductor industry. Under the agreement, up to 100 high-performing students per year will be able to participate in a six-month exchange program in Taiwan to expand talent development, global partnerships and cultural exchange with top universities in Taiwan.
The basic idea is to combine a study program in the semiconductor field with hands-on training at TSMC, a global leader in the semiconductor sector. From March to June 2024, the first program participants will study at National Taiwan University (Taipei). Following the coursework at National Taiwan University, TUD students will complete two months of hands-on training at the Newcomer Training Center & Fab at TSMC (Taichung) from July to August.
Both beforehand in Dresden and in Taiwan, students will have the opportunity to take a Chinese language course. In addition, there is an intercultural training seminar on Taiwan offered by TUD. On site, the students will also be supervised by the newly established Scientific Coordination Office of the Free State of Saxony in Taiwan, headed by Dr. Josef Goldberger, TU Dresden. In addition to tuition and program fees, the selected candidates will receive a subsidy for living expenses as well as for the trip itself. Accommodation will be provided, but must be paid for by the student.
Students who are enrolled in a master’s program or in the third year of their bachelor’s program at TU Dresden or one of the participating universities and who are pursuing a degree in a STEM subject can participate. Those who have completed a diploma program and have completed at least half of their coursework are also eligible.
