ZEISS: ZEISS SMT agrees acquisition of Swiss high-tech company

September 5, 2024. The ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology (SMT) division has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the Lithography division of Beyond Gravity in Zurich (Switzerland) and Coswig (near Dresden). The company is a leader in the development and production of special actuators and complex mechatronic assemblies. With the acquisition of the Swiss company formerly known as RUAG International, ZEISS SMT is expanding its production and R&D capacities to meet the high global demand for semiconductor production equipment. In addition, Zurich and Coswig are attractive and strategically important locations.

Passion for precision unites

The two companies have been working closely together for years. Beyond Gravity’s high-precision products are an important element in the semiconductor industry’s supply chain. In addition to the high-tech infrastructure for manufacturing its mechatronic products, Beyond Gravity contributes its innovative strength and R&D and engineering capabilities. The Beyond Gravity Lithography division in Zurich and Coswig currently employs around 210 people, who will receive a takeover offer from ZEISS.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of the current calendar year. The transaction is still subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities. Both companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
