Telekom MMS: EU AI Act – What the new AI regulation means for companies and how Telekom now supports MMS

June 17, 2025. With the EU AI Act, Europe sent a strong signal on February 2, 2025: For digital sovereignty, innovative strength and trust in artificial intelligence. As the world’s first comprehensive AI regulation, the EU AI Act sets out the rules for the responsible use of AI – clear, binding and risk-based. For companies, this means setting the right course now. Those who act early not only avoid fines and legal risks, but also actively contribute to a secure and sovereign digital future for Europe. Telekom MMS supports companies in turning the new requirements into opportunities – with advice, technical expertise and know-how transfer.

What does the EU AI Act actually mean for companies?

The AI Act divides AI applications into four risk classes – from minimal to unacceptable. Companies are obliged to classify all AI systems used, assess the risks and take appropriate measures to meet the legal requirements.

The higher the risk, the stricter the requirements. High-risk systems are particularly affected, for example in finance, medicine, human resources or automated decision-making. Comprehensive requirements apply here in terms of:

  • Transparency and traceability
  • Documentation obligations and risk analyses
  • Technical and organizational controls

In future, AI practices such as social scoring, biometric mass surveillance or manipulative systems will be prohibited. Violations could result in fines of up to 35 million euros or 7 percent of global turnover.

Another new aspect is that the EU AI Act makes AI skills training mandatory for employees. Companies that use AI systems must ensure that their teams have the necessary knowledge in dealing with AI and receive regular further training.

Why act now?

The new rules not only bring obligations, but also clear advantages:

  • Legal certainty: The AI Act creates a uniform framework for the use of AI in Europe and ensures predictability.
  • Confidence-building: Transparent and comprehensible AI solutions strengthen the trust of customers and partners.
  • Competitive advantage: Those who are compliant at an early stage can scale innovations faster and more securely and position themselves as responsible pioneers.
