Technical and Leadership Expertise for the Growing Microelectronics Cluster – Master’s Program “Industrial Management in Microelectronics (M.Sc.)”

The semiconductor industry in Dresden is booming: With Silicon Saxony, Europe’s largest microelectronics hub is expanding rapidly – and so is the demand for professionals who combine technical expertise with strong management skills. This is precisely where our English-language Master’s program “Industrial Management in Microelectronics (M.Sc.)” at Dresden International University (DIU) comes in. The next cohort begins on October 1, 2025.

Why an interdisciplinary Master’s programme?

Semiconductor manufacturing is evolving in increasingly shorter innovation cycles: New process nodes, advanced packaging technologies, and global supply chains demand engineers who not only have a solid technical background, but also strong business and project management skills. The DIU Master’s program bridges both worlds in a compact 18-month curriculum – making it an ideal addition to the talent portfolio of Silicon Saxony Association member companies.

Updated Program Structure Starting Fall 2025

Based on the positive feedback from the pilot cohort launched in October 2024, DIU has further developed and restructured the curriculum to be even more practice-oriented. New additions include:

  • Integrated German Courses: Profession-specific language modules support international students in settling into life in Dresden and pave the way for long-term career opportunities within the microelectronics cluster and the broader Dresden/Saxony region.
  • “Cultural & Team Competences” Module: Promotes intercultural awareness, team leadership, and conflict management skills in international project environments. At the same time, international students gain insights into cultural norms and traditions in Germany and the region of Saxony.
  • Sustainability Project: Students design and implement their own sustainability initiative, which can later be integrated into their Master’s thesis or an industry project.
  • “Scientific Working” (Module 2): Expands students’ competencies in academic research, data analysis, and scientific writing early in the program.

These innovations complement the established specialised modules on Semiconductor Technology, Packaging, Microsystems & Sensor Technology, Operations & Logistics Management, Project Management and Investment & Financing. As a result, graduates are confident both in the cleanroom and in management.

Added value for companies in the microelectronics sector and for our students:

  • Small cohort sizes: A maximum of 20 students enables intensive coaching by the Scientific Director and module leaders as well as short decision-making paths to corporate partners.
  • Sustainable talent pool: The obligatory German courses promote the long-term retention of international graduates in Saxony.
  • Strong network: As an affiliated institute of TU Dresden, DIU cooperates closely with Silicon Saxony, Energy Saxony and other clusters – synergies that directly benefit companies.
  • Student Service Centre: With this centre, DIU supports its international students with all relevant questions and problems relating to their studies, such as visas, finding accommodation or opening an account.
  • Practical semester & industry projects: Companies can incorporate real-life issues into the Master’s thesis or in the 30-ECTS internship semester, with students who complete this, and retain potential junior staff at an early stage.

  • Program Start: October 1, 2025
  • Application Deadline: August 25, 2025
  • Duration: 3 semesters (18 months)
