Dresden seeks investors for 10,000 new apartments

The city of Dresden used the international real estate fair to actively seek investors and project developers from the housing industry. With a booming economy and global technology companies investing billions in the chip industry, the city faces a huge need for around 10,000 new apartments.

Economic boom in Dresden driven by chip industry investment

Dresden’s economy is experiencing an impressive upswing, driven largely by investment in the chip industry. Over the past five years, industry giants such as Bosch, Infineon Technologies, GlobalFoundries and TSMC have invested significant sums in Dresden. With a forecast of around 30,000 new jobs by 2030 in the microelectronics and ICT industries, Dresden is on track to become Europe’s leading semiconductor location.

City of Dresden: Need for 10,000 new housing units for 20,000 people

The growth forecasts go hand in hand with an estimated need for 10,000 new housing units to accommodate the projected increase of around 20,000 people. This need results from the settlement and expansion projects of the chip industry and its suppliers.

Focus on investment opportunities: Dresden as an interesting market

Quarterback Immobilien AG sees Dresden as an extremely interesting market, especially due to the extensive industrial investments. However, Henrik Thomsen, Chief Executive Officer (CDO) of Quarterback Immobilien AG, emphasizes the need for investor-friendly conditions to drive residential construction.

Attractive housing for skilled workers: a key to success

Nora Pluntke of Infineon Technologies Dresden GmbH & Co. KG emphasizes the importance of attractive housing for skilled workers. Investments in the semiconductor industry have allowed the high-tech cluster Silicon Saxony to grow. In order to further promote this positive growth, attractive housing in Dresden and the surrounding area is crucial.

EXPO REAL 2023 was thus an important step for Dresden to establish itself as a sustainable business and industrial location and to attract investors for residential construction. We will continue to follow developments in Dresden closely and keep you updated on the latest information.
