SEMPA SYSTEMS: Semiconductor supplier continues to grow

March 14, 2025. The topping-out wreath floats high above the shell of the new company building, while the champagne glass shatters on the ground below. With this traditional topping-out ceremony, SEMPA SYSTEMS GmbH, manufacturer of high-purity supply systems for gases and chemicals and part of the globally active Meptagon Group, celebrates a milestone in the expansion of its Dresden headquarters.

“We are very proud to be able to toast this construction progress after just six months,” explained Dr. Jörg Koch, Managing Director of the company, at the start of the ceremony. “I would like to thank the architects, the planners, the engineers and, above all, the craftsmen who have realized this building with their expertise and craftsmanship. I would also like to say a big thank you to our general contractor, Goldbeck Ost GmbH, and to our internal project management team, whose collaborative partnership is crucial to the project progressing according to plan. And last but not least, I would like to thank the entire SEMPA team, who adapted flexibly to the construction site situation on our company premises and thus ensured smooth workflows,” added the physicist with a doctorate.

The company is responding to the increasing demand from the semiconductor and other high-tech industries in Dresden and the region with the construction of another production hall and an additional office building. SEMPA has been working successfully with some of the chip manufacturers already based here for many years. Such partnerships are now to be extended to include new companies. With the new production hall and the associated infrastructure, the company can double its production capacity and introduce new technologies and processes. This means that more extensive projects can be realized in less time.

SEMPA focuses on sustainability and modern energy concepts

The company relies on sustainable materials and a modern, long-term energy concept for its construction work. At the heart of this concept are heat pumps in combination with a photovoltaic system. The solar energy generated is used proportionally to cover the building’s own energy requirements, while the surplus electricity is fed into the Saxony energy grid. In addition, part of the roof area will be greened. To promote electromobility, 30 of the total of 90 car parking spaces on the company premises will be set up as charging stations for electric cars. A large covered bicycle shelter invites employees to do without their cars altogether.

A particular highlight of the project is the supporting structure, which is made from around 93% recycled steel. This enabled a sustainable, lean construction and significantly reduced the construction time.

Optically, the new building is a mirror image of the existing building; the seamless transition ensures an impressive appearance for the new, 4800 m2 company headquarters.

Corporate culture “carved in stone”

The number of employees has also doubled in recent years. As a result, the existing office and production space has become cramped, and the move to the new premises planned for July 2025 is eagerly awaited. The company is consistently expanding its workforce and will continue to create numerous highly qualified jobs in the future. “We attach particular importance to maintaining the excellent working atmosphere despite our growth and creating an environment that promotes collaboration, trust and innovation,” emphasizes the Managing Director. The new building meets this requirement: spacious training and social areas as well as a terrace surrounded by greenery offer ideal conditions for knowledge transfer, professional exchange and relaxation.

The location’s excellent transport links also ensure relaxation. The immediate proximity to streetcar, S-Bahn and city bus stops, the short distance to the highway and airport and the planned high-speed cycle path to the north of Dresden shorten the time it takes to get to work and support the company’s family-friendly approach.

A symbol of the future

“We are not just standing here in front of a building made of steel, concrete and glass – we are standing in front of a symbol of our growth, our courage and our visions. We are standing in front of our future”. The Managing Director concludes the ceremony with these solemn words. SEMPA is investing an amount in the double-digit millions in this construction project – a clear commitment to Saxony as a location and a strong sign of the future for customers and interested parties worldwide.
