Dresden, Germany, August 8, 2023. At TSMC’s board meeting on August 8, 2023, the Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer’s board of directors gave the green light for a new investment. At the same time, TSMC, Bosch, Infineon and NXP announced the establishment of a joint venture for advanced semiconductor manufacturing at the Dresden site.

The investment decision lays the foundation for the development of further semiconductor manufacturing in Silicon Saxony at the Dresden site. The high-tech network Silicon Saxony e. V. welcomes the Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer to the large family of European and German semiconductor and high-tech companies. The network is looking forward to a cooperative partnership with TSMC and will work to ensure that the company quickly becomes at home in Saxony and can successfully start its business.

The high-tech network Silicon Saxony e. V. comments as follows:
“With the settlement of TSMC, Saxony’s reputation as a European center of semiconductor high technology will be strengthened worldwide. TSMC’s commitment will attract further international companies and, above all, further skilled workers . In this context, Saxony would also be a headquarters address for the design company of Bosch, Infineon, Nordic Semiconductor, NXP Semiconductors and Qualcomm, which is in the process of being founded, to develop chips based on RISC-V,” says Dirk Röhrborn, Chairman of the Presidium of Silicon Saxony e. V.

“The construction announcement of TSMC sets the marching course for regional development in the Dresden Elbland for the next two decades. City planners are challenged to develop infrastructure with the necessary speed. Previous plans must be brought into line with the needs of the future. This is a great responsibility, but of course also a historic opportunity for the region and counties in central Germany with their attractive possibilities. The association will support this development to the best of its ability,” says Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director of Silicon Saxony e. V.

The investment is a strong impetus for industrial production in Germany and Europe. The entire European supplier industry will benefit from this. From semiconductor equipment, chemicals, wafers, substrates, packaging and assembly service providers to logistics and transport companies. As an environmental technology company, we know that the technical infrastructure is up to the investments and that we can design the construction of new factories in an environmentally compatible manner and in harmony with the interests of the Dresden population,” says René Reichardt, Managing Director of DAS Environmental Expert GmbH and board member of Silicon Saxony e. V.
