The groundbreaking partnership between SAP and Databricks ushers in a new era in enterprise data management, as two market leaders join forces to redefine how applications and data platforms work together. The new solution already integrates Databricks’ technologies for data engineering, machine learning and AI workloads.

“SAP Business Data Cloud enables business data to be used optimally for enterprise AI,” said Christian Klein, CEO of SAP SE. “The groundbreaking solution combines SAP’s unparalleled expertise in business-critical, end-to-end processes and data with rich semantics with Databricks’ outstanding data engineering capabilities. This helps organizations get even more out of their data.”

“Every organization wants to get more value from their data and AI investments,” said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks. By working with SAP, we are helping companies bring together all their data – regardless of format or location – to drive, analyze and develop domain-specific AI applications on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform.”

Utilizing Data Products

SAP Business Data Cloud also helps SAP drive the use and combination of data products across the enterprise. The solution provides fully managed SAP data products for all business processes – from financial, spend and supply chain data in SAP S/4HANA and SAP Ariba to training and employee data in SAP SuccessFactors solutions. The original business context and semantics are retained in these data products. They make it possible to access high-quality data directly without having to extract it at great expense. For example, if a CFO wants to assess the impact of rising inflation on profitability, SAP Business Data Cloud links external real-time data such as the consumer price index with financial data products such as G/L accounts or cost centers to provide a comprehensive overview of the current financial situation.

SAP Business Data Cloud will also provide so-called Insight Apps as an innovation. These use data products and AI models that use real-time data. Complex evaluations and information enable planning in all business areas, including for central business analyses or in finance and human resources.

“SAP Business Data Cloud will help us to derive maximum benefit from our data and drive innovation throughout the company,” said Markus Hartmann, Corporate Vice President, Head of Business Technology and Head of the Europe,  APAC and IMEA regions at Henkel, a multinational company in the consumer goods and adhesives industry. “SAP’s data products with rich semantics and the tight integration of Databricks will enhance our own data products. This will enable us to model scenarios and gain AI-supported insights. This strengthens the future viability of our data ecosystems.”

Harnessing the full potential of AI agents

SAP Business Data Cloud enables Joule, the SAP assistant with generative AI, to accelerate cross-functional workflows and speed up business decisions with the help of AI agents. Joule agents leverage the highest quality business data in the industry and the SAP Knowledge Graph solution, which provides a user-friendly data model. They gain extensive knowledge of end-to-end processes and can collaborate across functional areas to solve complex business challenges. No other agent creation technology can do this out of the box.

To highlight today’s announcement and its importance to AI innovation, SAP has also unveiled a series of out-of-the-box Joule agents for finance, service, sales and more in SAP Business Suite in the future. For example, agents in finance will collaborate on a variety of tasks to process claims faster and improve cash flow. In sales, on the other hand, Joule agents will accelerate multi-step business processes to resolve clarification cases more quickly and resolve customer inquiries faster.

SAP today also unveiled a powerful new agent development capability that allows customers to create and deploy their own AI agents in addition to SAP’s ready-to-use Joule agents. SAP’s decades of experience in business processes have been incorporated into the interactive workflow to help users provide the most relevant data and valuable business context for their customized agents.
