Infineon’s manufacturing strategy is based on a balanced mix of in-house and outsourced manufacturing and is a key pillar of the company’s profitable growth trajectory. In Cavite and Cheonan, volumes are bundled under the new ownership and first-class manufacturing services are provided for the entire industry. This will enable Infineon and ASE to leverage mutual synergies and create attractive growth potential on both sides.

“We have excellent, highly competent teams and can demonstrate the highest quality standards at both sites – Cavite and Cheonan,” said Alexander Gorski, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Backend Manufacturing at Infineon. “As a long-standing reliable and strategic partner of Infineon, ASE as the new owner will successfully continue this path and further strengthen both factories. The sale of our sites to ASE is in line with Infineon’s manufacturing strategy, enabling mutual synergies and further growth while strengthening the supply chain.”

“The automotive and power management market segments are strategic focus areas for ASE,” said Dr. Tien Wu, Chief Operating Officer of ASE. “The acquisition of Infineon’s Cavite and Cheonan sites underscores ASE’s commitment to a long-term strategic partnership with Infineon in developing back-end manufacturing solutions that meet future growth opportunities. Given Infineon’s market leadership in automotive and power semiconductors and ASE’s leading position in back-end semiconductor manufacturing, this partnership creates multiple benefits for the entire ecosystem, from product manufacturers to end users.”

Infineon Technologies Power Semitech is a back-end manufacturing site with approximately 300 employees. The production site is located in Cheonan, South Korea, about 100 kilometers south of Seoul. Infineon Technologies Cavite is a back-end manufacturing site with more than 900 employees. It is located in one of the fastest growing and most industrialized provinces in the Philippines.

The transaction is expected to close towards the end of the second calendar quarter of 2024 once all outstanding closing conditions are satisfied.
