According to TechInsights, Infineon increased its market share in all regions and remained the market leader in South Korea and China. In addition, Infineon made significant gains in the Japanese automotive semiconductor market. In Europe, Infineon has consolidated its strong presence as the second largest automotive semiconductor supplier and in North America its position among the top three suppliers.
“We are very proud to have further strengthened our position as the leading automotive semiconductor manufacturer. This great success is based on our product innovations and system expertise that add value to our customers’ solutions,” said Peter Schiefer, President of Infineon’s Automotive Division. “We also see this success as motivation, because our components are the basis for the future of mobility, making cars clean, safe and smart.”
“Infineon has maintained the top spot in TechInsights’ 2023 Automotive Semiconductor Manufacturer Rankings with nearly 14 percent market share,” says Asif Anwar, Executive Director of Automotive End Market Research at TechInsights. “Infineon’s sales of automotive semiconductors increased by more than 26 percent compared to the previous year, increasing its lead over the second and third-placed suppliers by four percentage points.”
World’s number one in automotive microcontrollers
One of the main reasons for Infineon’s great success was the strong sales of microcontrollers (MCUs) for the automotive sector. For the first time, Infineon is the global number one in this market. The company’s sales in this segment increased by almost 44 percent compared to 2022, resulting in a global market share of around 29 percent in 2023.
Microcontrollers are key components for the automotive industry as they control and monitor various systems in the car; for example, the electric powertrain, electric-electronic (E/E) architectures, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), radar and chassis. Infineon’s leading AURIX™ family of microcontrollers and TRAVEO™ family of microcontrollers are key contributors to this success as they drive the automotive industry’s transformation to autonomous, connected and electrified vehicles. They combine power and performance with the latest trends in virtualization, AI-based modeling, safety and networking capabilities, enabling new E/E architectures and the next generation of software-defined vehicles.
