“The implementation of our SiC production is progressing as planned and we are proud of the first customer deliveries,” says Dr. Rutger Wijburg, Chief Operations Officer of Infineon. “By gradually ramping up SiC production in Villach and Kulim, we are improving cost efficiency and continuing to ensure product quality. At the same time, we are ensuring that production capacity meets the demand for SiC power semiconductors.”
SiC-based power semiconductors have revolutionized high-performance applications. They can switch current even more efficiently, offer high reliability and robustness under extreme conditions and enable even smaller designs. With Infineon’s SiC products, customers can develop energy-efficient solutions for electric vehicles, fast charging stations and trains as well as for renewable energy systems and AI data centers. The delivery of the first SiC products based on 200mm wafer technology is an important step in Infineon’s SiC roadmap to provide customers with a comprehensive portfolio of high-performance semiconductors that enable green energy and contribute to carbon reduction.
As “Infineon One Virtual Fab” for highly innovative wide-bandgap technologies, the Infineon production sites in Villach and Kulim use common technologies and processes that enable fast ramp-up and smooth and highly efficient operation in SiC and gallium nitride (GaN) manufacturing. The 200mm SiC production is another building block in Infineon’s success story as a provider of industry-leading semiconductor solutions for power systems. It strengthens the company’s technology leadership across the entire spectrum of power semiconductors from silicon to silicon carbide and gallium nitride.
