The Munich I Regional Court today ruled in favor of Infineon in two additional patent infringement cases—specifically involving one patent and one utility model—between Infineon Technologies and Innoscience in the field of gallium nitride (GaN) technology.
The cases concern the unauthorized use of GaN technologies patented by Infineon by the Chinese company Innoscience. With today’s rulings, the court has prohibited Innoscience from manufacturing, selling, and marketing any further patent-infringing products in Germany. Furthermore, the court has ordered Innoscience to pay damages to Infineon.
These mark Innoscience’s third and fourth legal defeats in a series of court cases, each of which has found that Innoscience’s products infringe Infineon’s patents. Courts and authorities in the U.S. and Germany have repeatedly found that Innoscience’s products infringe on Infineon’s intellectual property rights. As early as August 1, 2025, the court had already ruled against Innoscience in an initial German proceeding. Furthermore, on May 7, 2026, the Full Commission of the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) found that Innoscience had infringed an Infineon patent in the field of GaN technology. Additional proceedings regarding the infringement of other Infineon patents are pending in the U.S. and Germany.
GaN plays a central role in the development of high-performance and energy-efficient power supply systems for a wide range of applications, including renewable energy technologies, data centers, industrial automation, and electric vehicles.
“Today’s ruling demonstrates the value of our GaN portfolio and underscores our commitment to vigorously defending our intellectual property and promoting fair competition,” says Johannes Schoiswohl, Senior Vice President and Head of Infineon’s GaN Systems Business Line.
Infineon is continuously expanding its position as a leading Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM) in the GaN market. The company has the industry’s broadest patent portfolio, comprising approximately 450 GaN patent families. Infineon is committed to fostering innovation and is constantly driving the development of semiconductor technologies to address the world’s most pressing challenges—from decarbonization to digital transformation.
