Infineon: Gartner Names Infineon a Leader in Power Semiconductors for AI Data Centers

June 26, 2026. In a recent report titled “AI Vendor Race: Infineon Is the Company to Beat in AI Data Center Power Semiconductors,” Gartner examined the rapidly evolving market for power semiconductors in AI data centers and identified Infineon Technologies AG as “the company to beat.” The report cites Infineon’s “comprehensive product portfolio, manufacturing capabilities, and early investments in advanced technologies” as key factors in its leadership position in power semiconductor solutions for AI data centers. According to Gartner, Infineon’s leading position in the competition for power semiconductors for AI data centers is being challenged by increasing competition in the silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), as well as by strong competitors at the compute board level for the final conversion stage at the processor.

As AI fundamentally transforms the demand for power semiconductors, Infineon forecasts AI market revenue of 2.5 billion euros for fiscal year 2027, supported by its broad portfolio position across the entire AI power supply chain.

System Expertise Across the Entire Power Supply Chain

According to Gartner, Infineon is securing its pioneering position in the AI data center semiconductor market through comprehensive grid-to-core solutions that cover the entire power supply architecture and are specifically designed to meet the high performance requirements and thermal challenges of modern AI workloads. While many competitors address only individual stages of the data center power supply chain, Infineon delivers optimized semiconductor solutions at every conversion stage: from solid-state transformers (SST), power supply units (PSUs), and energy storage systems (ESS), through intermediate bus conversion (IBC), to processor-level energy management. This maximizes efficiency, reliability, and performance throughout the entire system.

By optimizing each stage in the power supply chain with the appropriate semiconductor technology, Infineon enables data center operators to reduce cumulative energy losses across multiple conversion stages. This is a decisive advantage in the hyperscale sector and a significant contribution to the industry’s overarching sustainability goals.

SiC and GaN: The Right Technology at Every Stage

Infineon’s broad portfolio is based on a strategic combination of various semiconductor materials. Gartner notes that Infineon’s strategic and early investments, as well as innovations in the field of so-called wide-bandgap semiconductors—including SiC and GaN technologies—provide the company with decisive advantages in delivering energy-efficient power solutions, particularly for next-generation AI data centers with an 800-VDC architecture. Through the seamless integration of advanced wide-bandgap semiconductors—specifically SiC for highly efficient high-voltage conversion during the transition from the grid to the data center (grid-to-rack) and GaN for high-frequency intermediate stages of power conversion—combined with the targeted use of silicon at the processor level, Infineon minimizes energy losses at every single conversion stage.

From Powering AI Data Centers to Physical AI

Beyond the data center, Infineon’s advanced semiconductor solutions enable Physical AI in the real world: They enable humanoids, collaborative machines, and autonomous systems to perceive, think, and act safely and reliably. With expertise in microcontrollers, power systems, sensors, connectivity, functional safety, and data security, Infineon is a reliable partner for the entire spectrum of Physical AI platforms. Since the global robotics market is expected to grow to as much as 1.7 trillion U.S. dollars by 2050 and 300 million humanoid robots are projected to be in use worldwide (Source: UBS Research, 2025), and with an estimated average semiconductor value of $500 for Infineon per humanoid robot, Physical AI represents one of the most significant growth opportunities of the coming decades. From the power grid to the processor core, from the data center to the factory floor: Infineon forms the technological foundation of the AI era.
