Fraunhofer IIS: First competition launched to implement AI ideas for Saxon companies

April 9, 2024. With expert help, companies can implement their own AI solution quickly and without high consulting costs: The “reAIlize” competition run by Fraunhofer IIS in Dresden now offers Saxon companies precisely this opportunity. Under the motto “We bring your AI idea to life”, the institute’s Artificial Intelligence Application and Test Center (ATKI) offers the opportunity to have ideas for the use of AI in your own company evaluated by experts free of charge. In addition, the best submission will receive intensive support during the first steps of implementation. Ideas can still be submitted until April 30, 2024.

Many companies that expect the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to open up new opportunities for growth and innovation face major challenges when it comes to its use. This is where the “reAIlize” competition of the Fraunhofer IIS Institute branch in Dresden comes in, which aims to make it easier for small and medium-sized companies in Saxony in particular to get started with and implement AI. In June 2024, an independent jury will select the five most exciting AI application ideas from the submissions, each of which will win a one-day workshop with ATKI experts during the second half of the year. The status quo of their idea will be evaluated and a possible roadmap for implementation will be derived. In addition, the company with the winning submission will be awarded a prize on June 20 during a networking event in Dresden, to which all participants are also invited. It will then also receive a cost-benefit analysis and will be intensively supported in the first steps of idea realization within six months. The company only has to ensure that it actively participates during the implementation phase and that it can subsequently serve as a reference example. The expertise is provided by Fraunhofer researchers from the Institute’s Adaptive Systems Development division.

“With this competition, we want to spur creativity in Saxon companies and help take the fear out of AI technologies if their use makes sense,” says Dr Katja Lohmann-Schwitale, who is responsible for the reAIlize competition. “We are not focusing on individual sectors, but would like to call on all interested companies to take part until April 30. This broad approach is also reflected in our jury, which is made up of representatives from a wide range of Saxon networks, from tradespeople and digitalization associations to representatives of the start-up and innovation region of Saxony.”

More information about the competition and how to apply can be found via the link below, in an information flyer or by contacting Lohmann-Schwitale and her team at ai@eas.iis.fraunhofer.de.
