
“There are now suitable artificial intelligence offerings for companies of all sizes. In the case of free AI offers, the data provided is often used for training purposes and thus reused by the provider. Companies need to be aware of this in order to decide whether this is acceptable for them with the data used,” says Susanne Dehmel, member of the Bitkom Executive Board. “However, the fact that some of the payment options have more functions and computing power can also be relevant for the decision.”
Currently, AI is used both in companies’ products and services (51%) and to support their own business operations (61%). Among the companies that are currently still discussing or planning the use of AI (40% of all companies in total), 84% want to improve their own business operations with the help of AI – and only 26% want to use AI in products or services.
Note on methodology
The data is based on a survey conducted by Bitkom Research on behalf of the digital association Bitkom. This involved 603 companies with 20 or more employees in Germany being surveyed by telephone. The survey took place in the period from week 2 to week 7 2025. The survey is representative. The questions were: “How do you use AI in your company or how do you plan to use AI?” and “Do you use paid or free services or are you planning or discussing the use of paid or free services?”
