On September 11, BI researchers took part in the second plenary meeting of the CYMEDSEC project, which was held at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden. The EU-funded project is developing cybersecurity standards using the “security-by-design” approach based on findings from the field.
Another focus is on researching secure solutions for medical devices in the field of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). These are Internet-connected medical devices and equipment that collect, transmit and analyze health data to improve medical care and simplify healthcare processes.
Within CYMEDSEC, the BI will further develop its secure-by-default computer architecture and operating system platform M³. The aim is to adapt the platform to the specific requirements of medical devices by adding new hardware and software components for secure communication and software update processes. These features are crucial for making IoMT systems safe, reliable and easy to maintain. In addition, methods for detecting tampered hardware circuits during production and the effects of hardware side channels are being researched to ensure that no “Trojans” (hidden malware) can spy on sensitive data in medical devices.
During the meeting, the CYMEDSEC partners evaluated the progress of the first ten months and discussed the next steps of the project.
