The digitalization of the healthcare industry in Germany is making slow progress. A number of hurdles are preventing the practical implementation of the potential benefits of data rooms: a lack of trust and standards, data protection issues, a fragmented infrastructure and a lack of interoperability between systems are leading to faltering processes, high expenditure and therefore escalating costs. Together with renowned partners such as Roche, Siemens Healthineers, ROTE LISTE, Gesundheitsforen, Fraunhofer ISST, the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and W2 healthcare, adesso has therefore launched the HealthTrack-X data room project. The participants want to demonstrate that data rooms are not purely theoretical constructs, but can make a very concrete contribution to solving current challenges.
Secure data room for logistics, research, doctors and patients
adesso is developing a prototypical, collaborative data room for sharing data as part of the research project. The aim of the three use cases to be mapped in HealthTrack-X is to digitalize the production and supply chains in the industrial healthcare sector for pharmaceuticals, medical products and medical devices, thereby making them more resilient. The standardized carbon footprint management will also enable data exchange for the sustainability assessment of products along their production and supply chains.
HealthTrack-X opens up a large number of application scenarios: In the logistics sector, HealthTrack-X facilitates digital supply chain management with standardized, semi-automated data exchange between wholesalers and the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). The standardized data exchange based on uniform rules also enables many other efficiency gains – from internal company potential in procurement to simplified processes in CO2 reporting, for example for medical devices. The next milestone in the initiative will be the fundamental establishment of the data room in mid-2025, after which participants will be connected and data exchange scenarios will be tested as part of the implementation of use cases.
“We firmly believe that the key to a functioning healthcare industry lies in the sensible use of data,” explains Dr. Angela Carell, Head of adesso research. “That’s why we are involved in the HealthTrack-X project. As a technology partner, we are contributing to the development of secure and efficient data flows. Together with leading industry partners, we are creating the foundations on which numerous innovations will be built.”
