What subject are you studying and what semester are you in?
I’m studying electrical engineering in my 11th semester and am currently writing my thesis.
How did you hear about the lecture series and why did you decide to take part?
I attended the Design for Test (DFT) lecture because I was curious and wanted to learn more about chip design. I was very interested in the subject and I thought it would be a good opportunity to deepen my knowledge. I learned a lot during the lecture and gained valuable new insights. I also wanted to make direct contact with Racyics, especially with the person who is now supervising my thesis. This interest led me to look for a working student position at Racyics.
What were your expectations and how were they met?
Although I wasn’t able to attend all the lectures, I can highly recommend the DFT lecture. DFT is hardly covered at many universities and the lecture offers valuable insights into this topic. I was particularly enthusiastic about the explanation of the relationship between design and testability in IC design. This topic was extremely interesting and broadened my perspective.
Which lecture content inspired you the most? What did you miss or what would you recommend as a supplement for future lectures?
In the lectures I attended, I was able to gain valuable insights into the topic of DFT. For this reason, I can definitely recommend the DFT lecture. I believe that it is always important to learn new topics. The DFT lecture can make a big contribution to this, as DFT is hardly covered at many universities.
In your opinion, can the lecture series do something that the traditional courses can’t?
Definitely, as in my case, they not only provide specialist insights into new areas that are not offered at university, they also enable direct contact with the companies behind them, which can help you in your personal career.
Would you recommend other students to take part?
I would definitely recommend the lectures to anyone who is interested in microelectronics, because I think the DFT lecture is a perfect opportunity to learn more about DFT and get a deeper insight into the semiconductor industry.
How many of the participating companies did you already know before the lecture series?
I already knew Racyics, Infineon and Bosch.
What tasks do you have in the internship and to what extent does it take place?
Before my semester abroad in Taiwan, I was a working student in the DFT department and worked on introductory projects for new colleagues. Now I’m working on my thesis.
Do you already have plans for after graduation and if so, can you tell us what they are and your age?
I’m currently 23 years old and I’m definitely planning my future in the semiconductor world, most likely in Silicon Saxony. I can’t yet say exactly where I’ll end up.
Thank you for the interview, Alexander!
