The HEEDS AI Simulation Predictor from Siemens opens up new possibilities for manufacturers by empowering engineering teams with the potential of advanced AI-powered predictive models. As a new addition to the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, the software can revolutionize the exploration of the design space.

Key benefits:

–    Optimize products with precision: HEEDS AI Simulation Predictor uses state-of-the-art AI with built-in precision consideration. This helps companies to fully utilize the digital twin. This allows them to tune and optimize their products with precision.
–    Faster, more innovative designs: By leveraging historical simulation studies and accumulated knowledge, engineering teams quickly create powerful, innovative designs, significantly reducing time to market.

The challenge of AI drift

One of the biggest challenges with AI-powered simulations is AI drift, where models extrapolate inaccurately in unknown design spaces. To address this challenge, HEEDS AI Simulation Predictor introduces an AI that takes precision into account. This new technology actively validates predictions and helps engineers perform simulations that are not only accurate, but also reliable in the context of real-world industrial engineering applications.

“With HEEDS AI Simulation Predictor, we have significantly improved various components of the gas turbine, resulting in highly optimized designs and accelerated design cycles,” said Behnam Nouri, Team Lead, Engineering & Platform Design, Siemens Energy. “Our thermomechanical fatigue predictions were effectively improved, allowing us to process around 20,000 design elements in just 24 hours. This simulation enabled us to achieve a 20 percent improvement in component lifetime. This allowed us to fully characterize the limits of our existing design space required for high-efficiency turbine engines. With HEEDS AI Simulation Predictor technology, we were able to save over 15,000 hours of computing time.”

Siemens is also introducing Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling, a new software that uses highly realistic simulation and test data to train and validate AI/ML models. These models enable engineers to make predictions in a fraction of a second, changing the way engineers approach simulations.

The key benefits:

–    Speed and precision: Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling uses high-fidelity data. This enables engineers to make quick predictions and critical decisions in a fraction of the time previously required.
–    Predictive performance: By training AI/ML models on comprehensive data sets, this technology enables engineers to gain robust, reliable and trustworthy insights that help eliminate the common problem of AI drift.

“With Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling, we can accelerate our simulation models to the point where a detailed fuel cell plant model runs faster than real-time, with the same accuracy as a full system model,” said Jurgen Dedeurwaerder, Simulation Engineer at Plastic Omnium. “This allows activities such as the development and testing of model-in-the-loop controllers to be performed faster. This shortens the entire development cycle by around 25 percent. At the same time, it provides us with a reliable, IP-protected and cost-effective way of distributing models to other teams, both internally and to our customers. This allows them to optimize their own products and processes, resulting in better quality products for end users.”

“HEEDS AI Simulation Predictor and Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling represent a real breakthrough in simulation technology. They enable our customers to take advantage of artificial intelligence-driven simulation to accelerate the exploration of a design space and do so accurately and robustly,” says Jean Claude Ercolanelli, Senior Vice President, Simulation and Test Solutions at Siemens Digital Industries Software. “Plus, they can not only apply these breakthrough technologies to new projects, but also leverage decades of past simulation data to gain new insights for ongoing projects.”
