November 5, 2023: “Smart” ideas for sustainable, integrative urban development and concepts for living together in urban areas will be presented by Saxon exhibitors together with Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (WFS) at the Smart City Expo World in Barcelona from November 7 – 9, 2023.

“As one of the largest international platforms for these topics, Smart City Expo is also the first port of call for Saxony to present its innovative ideas. With concepts for street furniture, sustainable mobility and environmental data monitoring, as well as best-practice examples such as the city of Dresden, Saxony’s exhibitors offer interesting solutions for future urban development. “This is our second time at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, this time as part of the “all-round carefree package” from the Saxony Economic Development Corporation. What we value about the event is the direct exchange with city representatives at an international level. With our public bike sharing service, we are providing a sustainable building block for smart urban mobility. We also have a certain home advantage, as we have been operating public bike sharing for the Barcelona metropolitan region since this year,” says Mareike Rauchhaus from nextbike.

The business location Saxony will also present itself under the umbrella brand “Germany Works” as part of the all-German presentation “Meet the German Cities”. This is being organized by GTAI – Germany Trade and Invest, the federal government’s own company for foreign trade and location marketing. There will also be an informative lecture program for trade visitors on 8. This will be accompanied by an informative program of presentations by Saxon exhibitors under the heading “Sustainable urban transition in Saxony”:
The congress brings together key experts and leaders from innovative cities, companies, start-ups, research centers and initiatives. This year, over 1,000 exhibitors and more than 25,000 trade visitors as well as representatives from over 800 municipalities and cities from more than 140 countries are expected at the trade fair.
The trade fair is organized by WFS on behalf of the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA).
