The Welcome Center was used for the first time at the beginning of the 2024/2025 winter semester as part of the orientation week for international students. From the first day of their studies, they were able to find out where they could turn for advice and support services. During special consultation hours for new international students, they were able to find out about the first steps after their arrival in Chemnitz and received additional information material about studying at Chemnitz University of Technology, but also about life in the city.
The Welcome Center has also been the venue for other formats since then, including design thinking workshops, the welcome event for Chemnitz University of Technology trainees, workshops for international students on early career orientation and networking meetings of the alumni representatives of the faculties and central institutions as well as the Chemnitz University of Technology’s International Round Table. “With the Welcome Center, we want to create a place where our internationals feel comfortable and well advised on the one hand and which also serves as a stage for creative impulses for the internationalization of our university on the other. With very different formats in mind, we have explicitly incorporated this into the room design,” summarizes Dr. Benny Liebold, Managing Director of the IUZ.
The Welcome Center is available to all areas of the university that would like to use the space for their international event formats in particular. Thanks to the open and modern room design, the Welcome Center can be used for hybrid formats, smaller information events and workshops with an internationalization focus. The Welcome Center is also an ideal venue for international delegation visits, for example.
