It was published today on the occasion of the German government’s Digital Summit. According to the study, 9 percent of companies are already using generative AI and a further 18 percent are planning to do so. “There are huge opportunities for AI providers from Germany. In order to meet this demand, we must proceed with a sense of proportion in the upcoming implementation of the AI Act and give companies sufficient room for maneuver,” says Bitkom President Dr. Ralf Wintergerst. “Germany can and must become a leading AI location.”
Artificial intelligence is also one of the central themes of the German government’s two-day Digital Summit, which starts today in Frankfurt am Main. This year’s motto is “Germany Digital: Innovative. Sovereign. International.” Bitkom President Wintergerst: “Whether it’s energy efficiency, climate protection or efficient administration: digital technologies play a key role in helping us solve the major problems of our time and thus strengthen our digital sovereignty and resilience. The German government has already shown that it can really pick up the pace when it comes to digitalization. What succeeds in expanding the network or digitizing the healthcare system must become the standard.”
One of the Digital Summit’s successful projects to date is the Smart Schools Initiative, which in turn gave rise to the Digital Pact for Schools. The nationwide network of focus centers for the digitalization of Germany’s leading industries, known as German Digital Hubs, was also adopted at the summit. In addition, the initiatives for the single public authority telephone number 115, the institution of a federal CIO, the broadband strategy, the anti-bot network and the Germany Safe on the Net initiative were also created here. The Gaia-X project for a European cloud and data infrastructure was also developed as part of the Digital Summit. A concept for the Data Institute was presented for the first time in 2022. The Digital Summit has been held annually since 2006, when it was still known as the National IT Summit.
