DUALIS is a software manufacturer and provider of production planning and 3D simulation solutions. The company is increasingly using artificial intelligence. On the one hand, to automate internal processes and thus become more efficient and successful as an organization. On the other hand, to optimize the software products – especially in the area of production planning – with the help of AI so that they deliver even better and faster results and improve the user experience.
Internal process optimization – no more “mindless coding”
DUALIS is already using artificial intelligence for internal process optimization in a number of areas, for example in areas such as administration, marketing and development. “When developing our software solutions, we use powerful AI-supported code completion tools such as Github Copilot, which automatically complete and generate code. Through contextual suggestions, these tools can not only generate simple code snippets, but also more complex functions and algorithms with coherent improvement suggestions. This allows employees to devote more time to the creative processes surrounding new or customer-specific features instead of having to code mindlessly,” says Heike Wilson, Managing Director at DUALIS.
On the subject of documentation, DUALIS has also recently launched a project that will optimize employee training and customer service. An AI-based chatbot was trained based on a RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) approach so that it can also answer complex questions using information from documents such as technical manuals and feature catalogs.
More AI in the DUALIS product world
Artificial intelligence is also increasingly coming into focus when it comes to the DUALIS product world. AI is playing an increasingly important role in production planning by providing algorithms for handling complex planning tasks. The integration of AI into production planning enables the detailed analysis of large amounts of data in real time, which leads to more accurate forecasts, more informed decisions and optimized resource allocation. This enables companies to better identify bottlenecks, optimize production times and ultimately achieve efficiency gains.
Dr. Kirsten Hoffmann, Product Manager at DUALIS, explains: “Many of today’s production planning tools grouped under the term AI are based on mathematical optimization methods that have been tried and tested over many years. Only with the collection of structured data from all systems that manage planning-relevant data, as well as increasingly powerful computing power, are we getting closer to the goal of AI-optimized smart production planning step by step. With the new GANTTPLAN Analytics add-on, we are making our GANTTPLAN production planning software fit for future AI applications.”
GANTTPLAN Analytics is used to collect planning data in a structured manner, process it based on logic, analyse it and visualize it. The aim is to create robust forecasts by recognizing patterns and interdependencies from the past and analysing deviations from the plan, thereby putting planning on a more realistic footing. The advanced analysis options and functions for production planning also include AI applications.
The use of artificial intelligence can also make interaction with the software more intuitive and efficient, which ultimately leads to an improved user experience. DUALIS is continuously adding AI features to its products to provide users with innovative tools.
Heike Wilson says: “We see great added value in AI-based assistance functions as part of a new user experience that supports users in their complex operational planning tasks. It will certainly be a few years before the planning copilot, an interactive assistant that supports daily planning, is introduced. But our developments are already clearly heading in this direction.”
DUALIS GmbH IT Solution
Founded in 1990, DUALIS GmbH IT Solution – a subsidiary of iTAC Software AG and part of the DĂĽrr Group – specializes in the development of software and services for simulation, process optimization and production planning. The product range includes the APS system GANTTPLAN, the 3D simulation platform Visual Components and the hall planning tool AREAPLAN. DUALIS products are integrated in numerous well-known applications in large-scale industry and in medium-sized companies in the production and service sectors. Consulting and services for strategic and operational planning round off the DUALIS range of services.
The DĂĽrr Group is a leading global mechanical and plant engineering company with particular expertise in the technology fields of automation, digitalization and energy efficiency. Its products, systems and services enable highly efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes – primarily in the automotive industry and for manufacturers of furniture and wooden houses, but also in sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical products, electronics and battery production. In 2023, the company generated sales of € 4.6 billion. The DĂĽrr Group has around 20,000 employees and 142 locations in 32 countries and operates in the market with five divisions.
