The paper highlights the importance of trustworthiness for both humans and machines, describing both the opportunities and challenges of digitalization in Europe. It also identifies the need for research in four specific technology directions that are relevant for a secure digital future:

  1. Trusted computing cores that serve as the foundation for all digital applications.
  2. Scale-out technologies for disaggregation, which fulfill the task of physically separating resources while keeping the process efficient.
  3. Sensing and Future physical layer (PHY) to protect user privacy within the infrastructure of communication networks.
  4. Trusted future RAN (Radio Access Network) consisting of a programmable network infrastructure for which Europe should develop its own technology to enhance digital sovereignty.

By implementing these key factors, Europe can advance the construction of a trusted network for the future.
