All-day programs (GTA) in elementary schools offer children the opportunity to be creative according to their interests and to further develop their talents. We support the “Calliope Mini” GTA program so that children who are enthusiastic about technology have the opportunity to learn about programming in a playful way at an early age. If every IT company in Saxony could find a person willing to become active at their own children’s school or a school in the neighborhood, we could offer such a GTA throughout Saxony.
“Calliope Mini” was created as a joint project of various companies, including SAP and Siemens, with funding from the BMWF. The programming platform Open Roberta (freely accessible) is used for building block-oriented programming. Many schools already have a class set with teaching material for kids and teachers, alternatively it can be financed through GTA funds. It is very suitable for third and fourth graders.
To offer a GTA “Calliope Mini,” elementary schools also need an equipped computer cabinet with a projector and Internet connection.
