What matters now is an efficient, low-bureaucracy, innovation-friendly implementation of the Regulation, in which the regulations continue to be legally clear and practicable and double burdens are avoided. Together with the other EU member states and the EU Commission, we are working intensively on this – for a strong AI location in Europe.
With the entry into force of the regulation, the transitional periods for its applicability will begin today. In principle, the obligations will take effect 24 months after entry into force. Exceptions to the deadline apply in particular to prohibited AI practices, which already apply 6 months after entry into force, to the obligations regarding general purpose AI models (12 months after entry into force) and the obligations for high-risk systems in already harmonized areas (36 months).
