Mai 29, 2024. From April 15 to 21, 2024 the President of Dresden International University (DIU), Prof. Antonio Hurtado, and Ms. Xiaxin Thomas (International Officer) traveled to China to deepen the existing cooperation with renowned Chinese universities.

The trip took them to Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Guangzhou, where they held in-depth discussions with representatives from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) and Guangzhou Maritime University (GMU). The visits were characterized by an open exchange and the shared vision of taking the joint cooperative study programmes to a new level.
In Nanjing, the focus was on optimizing teaching and examination processes and promoting student exchange. The talks resulted in important agreements, including regular quality assurance meetings and further and advanced training for lecturers, which should help to improve the teaching quality of the joint degree program. In the winter semester of 2024, 19 students from the first intake of 2021 will complete their studies in Dresden for one year and receive a double Bachelor of Science degree from both universities. At the same time, a study group is being planned for a two-week exchange during the summer vacations as part of the summer school with the theme “The 99 faces of collagen” to give the program students the opportunity to get to know DIU live in Dresden before deciding to study there.
In Guangzhou, Prof. Hurtado and Ms Thomas presented the joint project of an MBA program in Logistics Management and discussed the future of joint educational programs. These talks laid the foundation for expanding the cooperation and planning further joint projects. Participation in summer schools and the exchange of delegations between the universities are also being planned, which will further strengthen the cooperation.
Target-oriented discussions were also held in Beijing and Shanghai. In Beijing, they discussed upcoming examination procedures and current trends with the head of the APS office (Beijing Academic Examination Center) in order to ensure the simplified visa procedure for DIU students to Dresden. In Shanghai, they ensured the continuation of the teacher training model for vocational schools and vocational academies and discussed the integration of DIU continuing education programs into the SGAVE project (Sino-German Automotive Vocational Education).
This trip was an important step towards consolidating DIU’s international partnerships and opened up new perspectives for future cooperation. The personal encounters and intensive discussions have strengthened trust and created the basis for further joint projects. DIU is looking forward to the next steps and to further deepening relations with its Chinese partners.
