TU Dresden: Continuous development of digital learning – university school once again honored as “Digital School”

September 2, 2025. Minister of State Conrad Clemens honoured a total of 37 Saxon schools for their outstanding commitment to mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology (STEM) and digitalization. The University School Dresden (USD) received the “Digital School” seal of the national initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!” for the second time. The University Community School was first awarded this in 2022. At the Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTWD), 23 schools were recognized as “STEM-friendly schools” and 14 schools as “digital schools”. The awards are each valid for three years.

Head of School Maxi HeĂź and Head of Digitality Timo Wulff are delighted with the recognition: “Digital plays a major role in everyday learning at the Unischule, especially for the higher grades, but also for the learning guides and parents from the moment they start school. The provision of a personal laptop for all pupils from year 4 onwards by the City of Dresden is an essential requirement. After acquiring the laptop driving license, they enable children and young people to use them in a wide variety of learning situations if they are the right tool.” Maxi HeĂź adds: “The continuous further development of the school’s own learning and school management software together with all members of the school community and supported by the ForUS research center is a major task from which other schools will hopefully also benefit soon. Data-based school development is implemented in the USD – ForUS tandem and shows what a school of the future can look like.”

The “Digital School” label recognizes schools that implement digitalization holistically in pedagogy, teacher training, regional networking, concept development and equipment. The list of criteria is based on the KMK strategy “Education in the digital world”. The award is scientifically based, association-neutral and independent. For a year now, the USD has also been a member of the “Digital School Saxony” network, which is linked to the national initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!”

About the initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!”

The initiator of the award is the national initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!”, which aims to motivate schools to further sharpen their digital profile and bring more computer science content into the classroom. According to the initiative, schools have become more open to the opportunities of digital education in recent years. They want to develop and drive forward their own digital transformation. The signet is intended to recognize and encourage the commitment of school administrators and teachers who are committed to modern education in the digital world.

About the University School Dresden

The University School Dresden is a joint project of the state capital Dresden and the Technical University. It is a public and free community school run by the city, where innovative forms of teaching and learning are tested under academic supervision. In addition, it is a training school for future teachers and, in the future, a further education school for teachers. The school trial is being scientifically supported by the ForUS research center at TU Dresden.
