NaMLab gGmbH, the world’s first joint venture between a leading microelectronics manufacturer and a university, is one of the success stories resulting from the Free State’s long-standing commitment to this field. NaMLab conducts research into the very essence of microelectronics: transistors and memory cells. There are only a few places left in Europe where this is done. Key Contributions to Research – Outstanding Publication Records
The research institute is internationally renowned and respected for its pioneering research on thin ferroelectric layers based on hafnium oxide. Work is currently underway worldwide on their application in microelectronic memory technologies and related components. In addition, it has made significant contributions to research on reconfigurable microelectronic components and to the development of new materials for power electronics.
The research institute currently collaborates with industrial partners in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Since its founding 20 years ago, the institute’s publications have been cited over 45,000 times (source: Elsevier’s Scopus). The research institute, with its approximately 40 employees, currently employs two “highly cited researchers” (source: Clarivate Web of Science).
