The Minister emphasized Saxony’s special role as Europe’s leading microelectronics location: “Anyone who wants to design world-class European chips in the future will not be able to avoid Dresden! Our renowned Barkhausen Institute at TU Dresden, together with the ICT cluster Silicon Saxony, the BMFTR initiative Chipdesign Germany and TU Munich, has developed a concept for a Competence Center Chip Design (CCCD), which has all the prerequisites to fill the high-tech agenda in terms of microelectronics with life.” This will take chip design to a new level and further develop Silicon Saxony.
Chip design is regarded as the supreme discipline in microelectronics – with the CCCD, Saxon-Bavarian expertise in research, design and production could grow even closer together in the future. Dirk Panter emphasizes: “Only by joining forces and using our complementary strengths can we in Saxony and Bavaria contribute to Europe gaining technological sovereignty and geopolitical stature. With highly profitable and structurally formative chip design initiatives, we can play a decisive role internationally.”
With a view to the opportunities arising from the agenda, Panter believes Saxony is well positioned: “The federal government will not be able to do without the excellent Saxon players in the other areas of quantum technology, AI, biotechnology and energy technology either. We will be prepared for the announced funding initiatives and confidently throw our hat into the ring.”
Minister of Economic Affairs Panter also sees the strategy as an impetus for Saxony’s innovation and transfer policy. A better transfer of research into the economy and the targeted recruitment of skilled workers are key levers: “We must ensure that our innovative strength does not remain in laboratories, but results in products, jobs and economic resilience. The combination of scientific excellence – for example at TU Dresden or HTWK Leipzig – with industrial scalability is Saxony’s great strength.”
Finally, Panter emphasizes: “The High-Tech Strategy is a joint promise for the future. Saxony is ready to keep this promise – with expertise, industrial strength and a clear innovation agenda.”
