SMC: Opening of an Industrial Application Center in Dresden – New space for networked development and industrial automation in Silicon Saxony

SMC Deutschland GmbH has opened a new Industrial Application Center (IAC) in Dresden, thereby expanding its presence in the Silicon Saxony technology cluster. On more than 180 square meters, a co-creation hub is being created that brings together industrial applications and those involved in production processes.

In contrast to classic test centers, the IAC offers a practice-oriented environment in which applications can be operated in real life, motion and control sequences can be demonstrated and typical scenarios from everyday production can be simulated. Circuits, cylinders, electrical axes, sensors or vacuum components for automation processes can be experienced directly in interaction.

“Dresden is one of the most important microelectronics locations in Europe. We are creating a place here where end users, mechanical engineers and SMC experts can work together on technical solutions,” says Robert Angel, Managing Director of SMC Deutschland GmbH. “As a central innovation hub, the IAC aims to accelerate coordination processes and strengthen knowledge transfer so that early decisions can be clearly steered towards forward-looking, implementation-oriented results.”

The IAC is aimed at companies from a wide range of industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, automotive, mechanical engineering and food processing. Workshops, training courses, project meetings and technical coordination take place here – always with the aim of precisely defining requirements together and developing tailor-made applications.

With the IAC, SMC is sending out a clear signal for Saxony as a business location and creating a platform that closely links industry, research and technological development. The Dresden IAC complements the existing center at SMC’s headquarters in Egelsbach and strengthens the Germany-wide network of application-oriented development work for the automation industry.

During the opening ceremony, the management of SMC Germany and the IAC Dresden team also presented a donation cheque to the association “Wegen uns e. V.”, which is active in Dresden.V.”, which is committed to helping foster and adoptive children in Dresden and the families who take them in.

The IAC is managed by a core team, which is supported by other specialists from the region depending on the project. The flexible structure makes it possible to bring in exactly the expertise required for customer projects, depending on the task at hand.

“Our aim is to create a space in which industrial challenges are not only discussed, but also made tangible through the direct interaction of application, engineering and practice,” explains Matthias Ronacher, Senior Vice President Direct Sales. “This creates a joint development process that effectively combines technical depth, direct interaction and real industrial conditions.”
