April 28, 2025. global semiconductor materials revenue increased 3.8% to $67.5 billion in 2024, SEMI, the global industry association for the electronics design and manufacturing supply chain, reported today in its Materials Market Data Subscription (MMDS). The recovery of the overall semiconductor market and increasing demand for advanced materials used in the manufacture of high-performance computing and high-bandwidth memory contributed to the growth in materials revenue in 2024.

SEMI sales of wafer fabrication materials increased by 3.3% to USD 42.9 billion in 2024, while sales of packaging materials grew by 4.7% to USD 24.6 billion last year. The chemical mechanical planarization (CMP), photoresist and photoresist accessories segments recorded strong double-digit growth, driven by the increasing complexity and number of processing steps for advanced DRAM, 3D NAND flash and state-of-the-art integrated logic circuits (ICs). All semiconductor material segments, with the exception of silicon and silicon-on-insulator (SOI), recorded year-on-year growth. Demand for silicon, particularly in the trailing-edge segment, remained weak in 2024 as the industry continued to reduce excess inventories, resulting in a 7.1% decline in silicon sales in 2024.
Taiwan was the world’s largest buyer of semiconductor materials for the 15th consecutive year, with sales of USD 20.1 billion. China continued to record year-on-year growth with sales of USD 13.5 billion and took second place in 2024, while Korea took third place with sales of USD 10.5 billion. With the exception of Japan, all regions recorded single-digit growth in 2024.
