The results show that the overwhelming majority of management is now planning long-term use cases to improve performance, workplace culture, compliance, safety and sustainability.
- 97% of CEOs expect this technology to have a significant impact
- 99% of companies plan to invest further in GenAI
- 90% see existing infrastructure as an obstacle to the effective use of GenAI.
The study “Global GenAI Report: How organizations are mastering their GenAI destiny in 2025” shows that almost all of the managers surveyed are investing in GenAI and 83% have already set up GenAI teams. The most important use cases for GenAI include personalized service recommendations and knowledge management, quality control and research and development (R&D). For two thirds of the executives surveyed, GenAI will become a game changer in the next two years and will bring improvements in productivity and efficiency, sustainability, compliance, business processes, security and employee experience in particular.
“The future is clear. Generative AI is more than just another tool – it is a transformative force,” says Yutaka Sasaki, President and Chief Executive Officer of NTT DATA Group. “As soon as we leave the experimental phase behind us, a tension arises: if we move too quickly, we risk unwanted effects; if we move too slowly, we fall behind. So we have to approach GenAI in the right way. That’s why we are providing a guide to help our customers harness the potential of GenAI for their sustainable success.”
Strategy and transformation
GenAI technologies are entering a cycle of consolidation and integration of different approaches. Isolated experiments will quickly disappear from budgets. At the same time, 83% of CEOs surveyed state that they have a clearly defined GenAI strategy, 70% expect transformative effects by 2025, but 51% have not yet aligned this strategy with their business plans. This gap limits both profitability and satisfaction with current results.
Innovation and technology
Almost all respondents agree that GenAI can boost creativity and improve research and development activities. Given the rapid development of GenAI technology, companies need to constantly re-evaluate and optimize their strategies and operating models. The biggest obstacle to the effective use of GenAI is considered by 90% of respondents to be outdated infrastructures. 96% therefore rate cloud-based solutions as the most suitable for supporting GenAI applications.
People and culture
96% of respondents are thinking about how GenAI can support their employees’ workflows and optimize processes in the future. However, 67% of respondents state that their employees do not have the necessary skills to work with GenAI. Around half are therefore planning training courses to increase the adaptation of GenAI. The biggest obstacles are users who only see limited value in a GenAI solution, limited or no awareness of the solution, resistance to the technology and concerns about the security of GenAI.
Ethics, security and sustainability
Managers see it as their duty to find a balance between moral imperatives and strategic necessities when it comes to GenAI. For 81%, it is “very important” to help their employees reconcile innovation and responsibility. At the same time, 72% of respondents state that their company has no guidelines for the use of GenAI by employees and the protection of intellectual property. 45% of CISOs feel “under pressure, threatened or overwhelmed”. In addition, 82% state that government regulations for artificial intelligence (AI) are unclear and therefore hinder GenAI strategies. As a result, most respondents expect regulatory compliance spending related to GenAI to increase.
“We are at an important juncture in world history as GenAI emerges as a formidable force in our technology-enabled economy,” said Abhijit Dubey, Chief Executive Officer, NTT DATA, Inc. “By supporting and driving this new era, NTT DATA is committed to its customers, its employees and society to ensure that everything we design, implement, deploy and manage is highly resilient, powerful and responsible.”
The figures in Germany are very similar to the global results, with deviations of a few percentage points. However, while 68% of respondents worldwide say they are “amazed” and “excited” by the transformative potential of GenAI despite the challenges, the figure in Germany is also a majority at 53%, but differs significantly by 15 percentage points.
