Smart Rail Connectivity Campus SRCC e.V.
About this member
The Smart Rail Connectivity Campus (SRCC) project is establishing a center for research, development, testing, and certification support in the field of smart rail transportation at the Annaberg-Buchholz site.
The smart rail sector addresses at least three global megatrends: urbanization, environmental sustainability, and digitalization. Innovations in this field have the potential to make a major contribution to sustainable mobility and, at the same time, to the economic success of all companies involved in the rail transport value chain, both domestically and abroad. However, realizing the diverse innovation opportunities is particularly challenging given the specific characteristics of rail transport (system longevity, certification issues, etc.) and the pronounced need for interdisciplinary collaboration.
In summary, the “Smart Rail Connectivity Campus” alliance pursues the following vision in establishing the research campus for 2030:
- a leading European development, prototyping, and testing site in Saxony,
- Saxon innovation system: a vibrant, open network, complementary expertise,
- solutions for mobility in Saxony,
- a pilot model for technology transfer to the Saxon economy,
- positive economic effects for the Free State of Saxony,
- a regional beacon and point of identification for the economy and citizens of the Free State of Saxony,
- increased attractiveness of Chemnitz University of Technology and Saxony as a center of science.
