OptoNet e.V. represents the interests of 123 players from industry, research and education who are active in the field of photonics. They all pursue the common goal of strengthening the internationally successful high-tech location in the heart of Germany and contributing to a better future with light-related technologies.

PHOTONICS refers to all technologies related to light. This includes processes and methods for the generation, amplification, shaping, transmission, measurement and utilization of light.

Thuringia, and Jena in particular, is a hotspot for the photonics industry. Around 16,500 specialists work in 180 companies and numerous research institutes on photonic issues and are recognized worldwide for their outstanding expertise.
