3-5 Power Electronics GmbH

3-5 Power Electronics GmbH (3-5PE) was founded by Dr. Volker Dudek, Dr. Gerhard Bolenz and Richard J. Kulle in 2016 for the development, manufacture and sale of power semiconductors based on gallium arsenide (GaAs). The 3-5PE team consists of experts with many years of semiconductor experience in technology development as well as in the establishment and management of semiconductor companies. So far, GaAs semiconductors have only been used in the low-voltage range for several decades and are the second most widely used semiconductor material after silicon.

Our Fab-lite business model

Based on the founders' wealth of experience, a fab-lite company has been established in which 3-5PE performs all corporate functions and the core LPE process in-house, but outsources all other standard processing steps. 3-5 PE's functions include research and development, in-house 4"/6" liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) manufacturing, technical product marketing and sales.

3-5 PE's LPE manufacturing

In addition to the LPE process, 3-5 PE and its foundry partner AZUR SPACE have developed another epitaxy process, Metal Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy (MOVPE), for GaAs power devices. In addition to this epitaxy second source, AZUR SPACE takes over all other processing steps for complete wafer/chip structuring.

In both the development and production areas, including the construction of discrete components and simple modules, there is a network of partner connections that complement the required expertise and keep the necessary technical know-how up to date.

Global sales and marketing of the 3-5 PE products is focused on a closely cooperating partner, Foxypower, as well as other local partners in China and Japan.

The product portfolio includes sawn wafers, discrete components and modules in standard housings.
