KUKA: All-in-one engineering suite for next-level digital manufacturing

April 28, 2025. iiQWorks, the central software platform, covers the entire automation process and enables end-to-end data exchange between all planning and production steps. The use of robots is easier and faster than ever before thanks to the digital twin. Offline programming and virtual commissioning offer innovative automation solutions in the context of Industry 4.0.

The iiQWorks engineering suite breaks down the silos between different production steps and makes the use of robots easier than ever – for programmers, commissioning engineers, sales engineers and project managers alike. In combination with the new KUKA operating system iiQKA.OS2, iiQWorks makes it possible to create a complete digital twin of the respective KUKA robot system. In this way, for example, feasibility studies can be carried out, existing systems expanded and new systems precisely planned – for both brownfield and greenfield projects.

Offline programming with the digital twin: efficient and flexible

The central element of the Engineering Suite is iiQWorks.Sim: The simulation software can be used to program KUKA robots offline – i.e. without access to a real robot. A digital twin enables a realistic simulation of the future application. This considerably simplifies the planning, design and optimization of the robot cell. At the same time, users retain full control over the process in all phases.

The iiQWorks engineering suite offers various advantages. Firstly, it guarantees fast and reliable planning processes by mapping all important steps of the digital customer journey centrally in iiQWorks: from initial information to configuration and maintenance of the automation solution. Thanks to the digital twin, robot programs and cell layouts can also be checked in advance for practical suitability, cycle times and process stability. In this way, iiQWorks helps to bring products to market much faster and stay a decisive step ahead of the competition.

Flexible software architecture for tailor-made scaling

But above all, iiQWorks impresses with its flexible software architecture: The iiQWorks.Sim simulation software offers a modular building block principle that can be scaled precisely to individual requirements – from the free Basic version to extended add-ons in the Advanced version. Users only pay for the functions they actually need. Depending on current and future requirements, new modules can be easily added without having to fundamentally change the existing set-up.

With iiQWorks, digitalization in production is implemented in a practical way – from the initial configuration to the planning phase to virtual commissioning and beyond. As a result, KUKA now offers an attractive solution for companies of all kinds to make their production processes more efficient and future-proof.
