The photonics group Jenoptik welcomes a total of 45 new trainees throughout Germany and an additional eight students from the Cooperative State University at the start of the new training year. This means that almost as many young people are starting their careers at Jenoptik as last year.

The 37 trainees from Jenoptik’s Jena and Triptis sites in Thuringia are being trained at the “Jenaer Bildungszentrum gGmbH – Schott, Zeiss, Jenoptik”, where they experienced their first day of training on Monday, August 4. On August 5, they were warmly welcomed by HR management and Jenoptik trainers at the Jenoptik employee restaurant “Lichtblick”. At the other locations, training starts at the end of August or beginning of September, depending on the vacation period. The dual study program begins at all locations on October 1.

“For us at Jenoptik, training is an investment in the future – in young people and in our own,” says Olaf Drillisch-Saathoff, Head of Human Resources. “Our aim is not only to give them a strong start to their careers, but also to inspire them with enthusiasm for lifelong learning from the very beginning. Because in a rapidly changing world, it’s no longer just about technical expertise – it’s about the ability to be open to new things, to push things forward with courage and to break new ground with confidence. This is exactly what our values stand for: open, committed, self-confident.”

Jenoptik has launched a “Buddy” program to provide even better support, especially during the first few years at the company. Throughout their first year of training, our trainees have Jenoptik employees at their side who, together with their trainers and teachers, support them in their new phase of life.

At the “trainee launch” in Jena, the newcomers were able to meet not only their respective mentors and buddies, but also members of the works council and the youth and trainee representatives (JAV). A tour of the company premises in Jena-Göschwitz, a time capsule activity and lunch together in the staff restaurant “Lichtblick” rounded off the day’s program.

With the start of the new training year, Jenoptik will then employ a total of 164 young people in training throughout Germany on October 1, 2025. Around 20 percent of all apprenticeships are filled by women. To fill the apprenticeship positions, Jenoptik in Thuringia uses the various programs of the Free State of Thuringia to recruit skilled workers, especially the offers of the Ministry of Economics and other institutions, such as the speed dating offer of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce or information events of the Ministry of Economics.

Jenoptik trains mainly in the following occupational fields (f/m/d): Precision optician, mechatronics technician, microtechnologist, industrial mechanic, industrial clerk, warehouse logistics specialist, physics laboratory technician, plastics and rubber technologist, IT specialist, electronics technician for devices and systems and product designer. The subjects of the dual study programs include practical computer science, business administration, mechatronics, testing technology and quality management as well as production technology.
