Infineon Technologies AG is further expanding its number one position in the global microcontroller market. According to the latest research by Omdia [1], the company increased its share of the overall microcontroller market to 23.2 percent in 2025 (2024: 21.4 percent), up 1.8 percentage points on the previous year – the largest increase among all competitors. Remarkably, this market share gain was achieved against the backdrop of a slightly declining microcontroller market (-0.3 percent).
“Our relentless commitment to quickly translate innovation into customer value, our outstanding system solutions and our strong customer relationships are reflected in this great market result,” says Andreas Urschitz, Chief Marketing Officer and Member of the Management Board of Infineon. “With our leading product portfolio, reliable software and easy-to-use development tools, we help our customers to create value and master the global challenges of decarbonization and digitalization. Growing faster than the market is a direct result of our continuous investment in technology and our close collaboration with our partners worldwide.”
Ethernet strengthens microcontroller business for software-defined vehicles
Infineon achieved the top position in the global microcontroller market for the first time in 2024, one year after the company had already become number one in the automotive microcontroller market. The successful acquisition of Marvell’s automotive Ethernet business in August 2025 further underpins Infineon’s leading market position. With this step, Infineon expands its portfolio of connectivity solutions and significantly complements its offering for centralized computing architectures in software-defined vehicles (SDV). The combination of the industry-leading BRIGHTLANE™ automotive Ethernet portfolio with Infineon’s AURIX™, PSOC™ and TRAVEO™ automotive microcontroller families creates an unrivaled system offering for SDVs, enabling features such as autonomous driving, advanced driver assistance systems and secure over-the-air updates.
Infineon microcontrollers enable physical AI like humanoid robots
In addition, the acquisition opens up additional growth opportunities in emerging IoT areas and in physical AI applications such as humanoid robots. Infineon’s AURIX, PSOC and MOTIX™ microcontrollers enable humanoid robots to perceive, think and interact with their environment in real time. They enable advanced computing, intelligent actuation and motor control, connectivity and intelligent edge functions.
Infineon supports the central functional blocks of humanoid robots and accompanies customers from the concept phase to series production – in industrial, service-related and private applications. With its PSOC portfolio, Infineon is also expanding its presence in industrial and consumer markets, offering scalable, secure and energy-efficient microcontroller solutions that are widely used in smart home systems, industrial control devices and connected IoT devices.
Cybersecurity functions for future requirements already implemented today
From IoT devices and connected vehicles to industrial infrastructure, AI-based applications and robotics: cybersecurity is essential. That’s why Infineon microcontrollers are equipped with future-proof security technology to protect data, identities and systems from the outset and throughout their entire lifecycle. This includes meeting international security standards such as ISO/SAE 21434 (Automotive Security) with the latest AURIX and TRAVEO MCUs. In addition, Infineon is developing architectures that already meet future requirements today – for example from the EU Cyber Resilience Act or in relation to post-quantum cryptography. This is implemented in the latest PSOC products for industrial and consumer applications as well as in the AURIX and TRAVEO automotive MCUs.
