“We are very pleased to be working with NVIDIA in the field of humanoid robotics,” said Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon Technologies. “By combining our expertise with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technology, we offer our customers simple, integrated and scalable solutions in robotics. This significantly shortens time to market. Infineon enables the key functional blocks of humanoid robots through a broad portfolio of customized solutions – from power switches to microcontrollers, sensors and connectivity. We enable humanoid robots to sense, move, act and communicate – safely and securely.”

“NVIDIA Jetson Thor is designed to accelerate the future of physical AI and robotics,” said Deepu Talla, Vice President of Robotics and Edge AI at NVIDIA. “Infineon brings its extensive product and technology portfolio to the Jetson Thor ecosystem. More efficient, powerful and scalable solutions for motor control in humanoid robots will significantly accelerate time to market for customers.”

Infineon offers a comprehensive portfolio of targeted solutions for humanoid robots, including the PSOC™ and AURIX™ microcontroller families, which provide industry-leading security and protection against cyberattacks and unauthorized access. The microcontrollers enable real-time processing (via multi-core) – an essential requirement for safe, responsive and adaptive robotic systems. As the world’s leading supplier of microcontrollers for the automotive industry, Infineon has many years of experience in safety-critical applications that enable safety and reliability in high-precision motion control solutions. With the recent acquisition of Marvell’s automotive Ethernet business, Infineon has also expanded its portfolio with the BRIGHTLANE™ series, which offers high-speed Ethernet capabilities – another core element of humanoid robots.

Real-time AI and control are critical to general robotics. As part of the collaboration, Infineon is providing its PSOC Control C3 family of microcontrollers that will be seamlessly integrated with the NVIDIA Holoscan Sensor Bridge in the NVIDIA Jetson Thor series modules – a platform for physical AI and humanoid robotics that enables real-time perception and scalability. PSOC microcontrollers are ideal for implementing so-called field-oriented control (FOC) algorithms, which are often used for precise motor control as they reduce noise and provide stable torque. Vibrations in humanoid systems are thus reduced. In addition, Infineon offers a complete motor control chipset, including the latest Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistor technology, for compact and highly efficient motor control solutions. The integration of gate drivers and current sensors from Infineon reduces communication and design challenges in humanoid robotics, allowing developers to focus on innovative solutions.

Through this initiative, Infineon is taking the next step of innovation in humanoid robotics, enabling the development of more complex robots that can perform multi-layered tasks with precision and accuracy.
