“GaN technology paves the way for even more efficient and thus CO 2-saving solutions that drive decarbonization,” said Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon. “The acquisition of GaN Systems significantly accelerates our GaN roadmap. Infineon masters all relevant power semiconductor technologies and further strengthens its leadership position in power systems with this acquisition. We warmly welcome our new colleagues from GaN Systems.”

With now around 450 GaN experts and more than 350 GaN patent families, Infineon is expanding its leading position in power semiconductors and significantly accelerating time-to-market. The two companies’ strengths in intellectual property and application understanding complement each other perfectly; together with a large number of planned customer projects, they put Infineon in an excellent position to serve various fast-growing customer applications.

On March 2, 2023, Infineon and GaN Systems announced an agreement under which Infineon intended to acquire GaN Systems for $830 million. The acquisition, an all-cash transaction, was financed from existing cash resources.
